Shark Bicycles - Designed in the Pacific
Shark week is awesome right? Well how awesome would Shark Bicycles be?
I explored this idea, and made it a reality! It was hard to not share the process as I created each image, but when everything was put together - it was totally worth it.
I started out with designing just the logo. Originally I was going to go for a more cartoon logo, with jagged edges and a "rough look", but I decided to scrap that idea and head to the clean route.
After finalizing the logo (it was pretty easy to get the invisible client to approve of my idea), I moved on to the frame. I didn't wan to focus on designing an actual bike, but I did want to create frame graphics, and start creating the "image" of shark bicycles. This is when I decided I wanted to base the look off the shark fin as seen in the logo. I based the rest of the graphic design off the shark fin, and I am pretty stoked with the finish of the Thresher Carbon!
Bonus - watch a Thresher Shark use his tail as a whip to kill its prey HERE
To seal (get it, seal? No.. Okay) the clean image of Shark Bicycles, I wanted an uber simple racing jersey design. This included focusing 100% on the logo, and branding of the company, and not on making a fancy graphic - which in my opinion should be the focus of all jerseys (but that is for another blog post). Overall I'm stoked on the look of the custom jersey for team rider Bruce Anchor.
Fun Fact - The three sharks in Finding Nemo were Bruce, Anchor, and Chum.
(Side note: Finding dory is awesome, and baby Dory is the best thing ever)
Designing helmets is something that is a blast, that I definitely don't do enough of. It is really a challenge to design a helmet, as you have to think of ways to have colors and design from all angles, all while everything seamlessly flows together. For this helmet I again focused on the shark fin, and wanted to bring a nice combo of the team colors
To finish things off, I had to create a numberplate for Shark Bicycles and Bruce Anchor. I really like the idea of the shark fin between the numbers, which I came up with on the jersey. I decided to take that to the numberplate, and pair it with the exact water from the logo. Paired with a large logo up top, its almost guaranteed Bruce Anchors plate will be read from the announcer, getting the new bike company some extra love over the loud speakers.
Contest- The first person who can figure out which gloves the Shark Bicycles are identical to in the BMX Olympic Gear Designs bundle, I will give you a special prize! Email me here.
